Papain
Type: Enzyme
Found in raw papayas, papain is a type of proteolytic enzyme that helps to digest protein and breaks them down into smaller molecules for better absorption.
Papain is often used to relieve indigestion symptoms, such as bloating, excessive gas and nausea. Other than its role in digestive health, papain is also a natural remedy used to ease symptoms of inflammation and pain, particularly sore throats and shingles (herpes zoster), and promote wound healings when applied topically.
There is a wide range of papain products available in the market, including oral supplements, topical cream, and personal care products (e.g. toothpaste and cosmetics).
