White Kidney Bean
Latin Name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Other Name: Cannellini Beans
White kidney bean is a type of legume that provides good amounts of vegetarian protein and dietary fibre.
White kidney bean extract is often used as a natural, non-stimulant way to promote weight loss as it contains two main active components: alpha-amylase blocker and phytohemagglutinin.
Alpha-amylase blocker works by inhibiting the activity of amylase, a digestive enzyme that breaks down starch into simple sugars. This then prevents the digestion and absroption of carbohydrates. Phytohemagglutin is a type of lectin that helps suppress appetite by reducing the release of hormones that stimulate appetite.
Additionally, white kidney beans have shown to reduce blood sugar and insulin spikes after meal, especially a high-carbohydrate meal.
