Iron
Type: Mineral
Iron is an essential mineral that is critical for healthy red blood cells formation and transportation of oxygen to all body cells. It is an important component of hemoglobin (red blood cells) that transports oxygen throughout the body. With a lack of iron, the body does not get sufficient oxygen thus leaving you feeling fatigue and dizzy. This will also affect other bodily functions. Iron deficiency is also known as anemia.
Women, in particular, need more iron in general. As they go through menstruation cycle, iron is lost and more is lost if they have heavy, prolonged or short menstrual cycles. Pregnant mothers will need more iron to support placental and fetal needs too.
Common food sources include meat and leafy greens (e.g. spinach and bok choy).
