Beta-Carotene
Type: Antioxidant
Beta-carotene is an antioxidant as well as a red or orange color pigment deriving from fruits and vegetables that provide health benefits to our eyes, skin and immune function.
Our body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A and the conversion amount depends on the body's demands. As vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, it is best to eat with foods that contains fats (preferably healthy fat) for optimal absorption.
Common food sources rich in beta-carotene include fruits and vegetables that are orange or yellow colour, such as carrot, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and rockmelon. It can also be found in dark leafy vegetables such as spinach.
