Tocotrienols
Type: Vitamin
Tocotrienols are a less common group of vitamin E than tocopherols.
Although both tocopherols and tocotrienols have similar chemical structures, the main difference between these two is that tocotrienols are unsaturated forms of vitamin E as they contain double bonds.
Just like tocopherols, tocotrienols exist in four different forms: alpha, beta, gamma and delta. Tocotrienols are powerful antioxidants that help protect against free radical damage. Due to this property, studies proposed that tocotrienols might be helpful in protecting the brain from conditions like dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease; improving heart health, lowering risks of certain cancers, maintaining skin and hair health, as well as promoting gastrointestinal health.
Common food sources include cereal grains, rice bran, oat, barley, and palm oil.
