Lingzhi (Ganoderma Lucidum)
Other name: Reishi Mushroom
Type: Fungus
Lingzhi is both an edible mushroom and medicinal fungi by itself. Highly regarded and used by the Chinese, it is otherwise known as Reishi in Japan or Youngchi in Korea.
Lingzhi works to fortify and regularise the body functions, and support the immune system over time.
Lingzhi has a long history in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its usage was recorded in the Herbal Pharmacopoeia and the Compendium of Materia Medica by Li Shizhen.
The beneficial part of Lingzhi is in the spore and the spores are protected by a hard, shell-like layer. The nutrient is kept in a powdery form within the spores, in a hard protective shell. Long term consumption of the Lingzhi mushroom does not necessarily ensure that you are getting the maximum nutrients as the hard shell affects the absorption of the nutrients.
In order for the nutrients within to be extracted, these protective hard shells have to be broken using advanced technology. Studies have shown that the active ingredients of the "cracked" spores are more easily absorbed by the body.
